Spalding is a market town with a population of about 30,000 people and about twenty miles outside Peterborough, sitting on the River Welland in the South Holland district of Lincolnshire. Spalding is famous for its annual Flower Parade which attracts many visitors from all over the world, although the attendance has been declining from year to year. Since 2002 it has also held an annual Pumpkin Festival in October. The town is recorded in the Doomsday book as 'Spallinge'
